Pete Mounts the 14" to His Pier

A 14" LX200GPS telescope with 63 year old legs heads across the yard.  The Get-A-Grip handles are 1" in diameter, and distribute the weight of the scope so that you can make long carries without feeling that your fingers are about to be severed.

The most difficult part of the operation is lifting the scope to the height of the mount.  We're at 42° N latitude and the top of the wedge is 44" high.  It's not really that hard if you do what weight lifters call a "jerk".  Bend your knees a bit and then straighten up quickly.  Once the scope is moving upward it isn't so difficult to continue lifting to the necessary height using your arms.  For reference, I'm 5' 10" (178cm) tall and weight 167 pounds (76 kg).

The mounting bolt is aligned with the V-notch in the wedge.

The mounting bolt slides down into the V-notch.

The mounting bolt is now fully engaged in the V-notch.

The mounting bolt is tightened down.  It helps to pull the scope base down against the wedge rather than rely upon the bolt to pull it down as there is less wear to the wedge and the threads.
